BMW M - H2 NEBULA

A nebula is a giant cloud of dust and gas in space.

Nebulae generally contain gases such as hydrogen(H2), the first material on the periodic table and the lightest element.

A nebula forms from the gas and dust ejected by a dying star, such as supernovas. Other nebulae are regions where new stars begin to form.

Why M? The sport division of BMW

From their factory in Munich, they have been building some of the most desired cars (and recently) motorcycles in history.

The importance of the "M" badge lies in the combination of excitement, passion and desirability, which are transmitted to the user through a very high-performance product, with clear care and attention to detail.

Why H2? Sustainability and Hidrogen:

With the aim of demonstrating to skeptics the viability of this type of technology, I think it would be interesting to host under the M brand a high-performance hydrogen motorcycle.

The machine then will be designed under the objective of being capable of equaling and surpassing the performance of an internal combustion engine, with a product that has a lower carbon footprint.

DESIGN INSPIRATION

!! DESIGN INSPIRATION

That started with the R32

Perfect attributes to make a great motorcycle with an iconic design, which was just what they did with their first model, the BMW R32, with quality standards that left the rest of the motorcycles in circulation in 1923 in a bad place.

Herritage in the boxer engine

Before making cars, BMW moved from the world of aviation to motorcycles. Their feat was notable, as they managed to replicate the design philosophy of the aeronautical world in which it is about maintaining care for super-high class and bomb-proof quality.

Boxer = BMW

Reimagining the future

By strategically positioning the hydrogen tanks in the position that a boxer engine would be in, we provide the motorcycle with a muscular design, strategically positioned to lower the center of gravity as much as possible, without compromising the bike's ability to turn and maintaining the iconic silhouette that has accompanied BMW motorrad since day 1 and and makes it recognizable.

Design

“Tank” inspiration: 1969 BMW r75-5

It was truly a complicated time for motorcycle manufacturers due to the high competitiveness of Japanese brands.

Adapt or die was the only alternative on the market, but BMW makes products to last, and this model from which the tank was inspired is one of them.

Now it is only his reminescence through his silhouette in a hollow tank.

Aesthetic Mooodboard

Machine and Human form a single organism, one on a motorcycle.

Organic Shapes that merge with Transparencies that allow a full view of the High technology that completes and bases the machine and allows the eye a total vision of the components.

SKETCHES !!

Bmw 328 Hommage

Taking direct inspiration, the project began in a very similar way to that of the BMW 328 Homage, giving the bike a material treatment very similar to that of the BMW R32.

Simple and Light

When it came to providing the bike with materials, I thought about using a white tire to give it a touch of class, along with the use of carbon and translucent materials for the fairing.

Everything in sight = Potential Problems

I made some initial renders with the intention of clearly seeing how things really work and look. My intention is focused on the design, but I also want it to be as realistic as possible.

Key Sketch: Show the Technical body through Transparencies

Much of the technological components of the motorcycle such as controllers, batteries or wiring are now exposed on the motorcycle, so it is important to design what is not normally seen.

Wheel design

!!

Wheel design !!

The design of the wheels should not be underestimated. The magic (and also the complication) of a motorcycle is that everything is more compact and more exposed than in a car, and the same thing happens with the rims and tires.

For its design, a transparent turbofan was used on the rear wheel, seeking to go in harmony with the rest of the motorcycle, anchored to a sporty and dynamic 5-spoke rim.

My intention for the design was to use a single-sided swingarm, since it has multiple advantages that match the project:
